I'm very interested in science, especially in natural science. I like to read books that present a scientific topic in an understandble manner. I also like voluminous books about the history of science.

In the following I present a few random scientific disciplines.

Astronomy

Unfortunately I don't have much time to stare into the sky. So I don't really know many stars. I was looking forward with many expectations to the total eclipse of the sun on Aug 11, 1999 which happened to be visible in our area. Unfortunately the weather was rather mixed that day. At the place where I wanted to watch the eclipse it was totally overcast from 12 o'clock on.

Here are some starting points for lots of information about astronomy.

Math

You think Math is boring? I don't. Especially not if the topic is a problem which can be tackled with computer programs.

Many math problems are quite popular, which can partly be attributed to the monthly column in Scientific American.

Of course I have programmed several of this problems on computers already. On the following pages I present two of them: Fractals (the Mandelbrot set) and prime numbers.
